I begin with a bar that was completely new to me. The evening started as a ‘Burger Crawl’ but as conversation evolved, we began to discuss good curds in the city. The Tipsy Cow was already on our list of places to go and when we saddled up to the bar we asked for beer AND cheese.
Tipsy Cow offers two types of curd: we went with the Spotted Cow battered cheese curds. However, Goat Cheese is available and I’ll go with them the next time around.
Presentation: 3 – Standard basket with green and white checkered paper and a side of ranch.
Breading/Batter: 3.5 – I dig a lighter breading, as the cheese is most important. Breading is like cologne: you need to know it’s there but it can’t overwhelm the senses.
Flavor: 4 – Outstanding.
Curd: 3.5 – What spoke to me about this order was the variety of curd. No curd was the same size. Some were dime size and others the size of a human thumb (see picture below).
Cost: 2.5 – $7 per basket was not bad considering the quality.
Sauce: 2 – The only available dipping sauce was what reminded me of a watered down Hidden Valley.
Overall: 3.1
At the end of the day, the curd was worth the visit and great to share with good friends.

Try the goat cheese curds! While the normal ones are amazing, the goat cheese curds are definitely worth the $1 more every time!
